This article is all about developing a skincare routine to keep my skin happy and healthy. When it comes to skincare, I like to use natural and organic products wherever possible to avoid aggravating my skin over time by using products that include toxins and harsh chemicals.
In my skincare routine, the key things I concentrate on are…
- First and foremost, I want to take care of my skin.
- maintain a good mix of days when I use skincare and days when I don’t use any at all.
- The goal is to have moisturized, healthy skin.
- reduce the appearance of acne and hyperpigmentation
- lighten and remove dark circles
- avoid wrinkles, lines, and other aging indications
- decrease puffiness
The holy grail of skincare, first:
Sunscreen
Sun damage is awful, and I’ve discovered that it causes dead skin, flakiness, acne, and rough texture in my skin, so essentially everything that could go wrong with my skin does when I have it. It makes a world of difference when I use sunscreen every morning before heading out, and my skin stays smooth and healthy. During the summer, I apply it every day, but on occasion, I may miss it to give my skin a rest and ensure that I’m maintaining a healthy balance of avoiding UV rays while also getting the other beneficial vitamins the sun provides. In the spring and fall, as well as in the winter, I wear sunscreen because even if it’s freezing outside, there are days when there are no clouds in the sky and I can feel the sun directly on my skin.
I use CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 or when I want some coverage the Physicians Formula Super CC+ SPF 30 which works nicely for my face. It doesn’t irritate my skin and blends in beautifully without leaving a white residue. I’ve never used a better sunscreen.
I wake up wash my face, put on Vitamin C Serum, a bit of moisturizer, and Sunscreen. That’s what I do first thing in the morning, but I keep the remainder of my skincare until the evening. Let’s start with the cleanser, which is at the top of my routine.
I’ve been using Biossance Squalane Cleanser, which has done a fantastic job of cleaning my face without drying out my skin.
Now it’s time for the next step in my skincare routine: face mist or toner.
Mist for the Face
To help control my acne, I use Thayers Facial Mist. It’s alcohol-free and contains aloe, which is really calming. It appealed to me since it contains witch hazel, which helps to keep my skin clean and bacteria at bay. It’s yet another incredibly delicate product that I adore. Even though it contains witch hazel, the amount is so minimal that it seems like I’m spraying water on my face. I spray this on myself throughout the day to give me a pick-me-up. It feels wonderful and invigorating. Right now, it’s in rose petal, which is so relaxing and lovely. Right now, I’m really into rose in my skincare products.
I also spray this on my legs after shaving and getting out of the shower, and the way it gets rid of all the razor burn and redness I used to experience (due to the witch hazel) is wonderful. Even as an after-shave, I highly suggest this stuff. To be honest, this mist’s best feature.
After that, I use an oil serum in my skincare routine.
Serum of Oil
I have three different types of oils that I like to mix up and rotate. I’m using The Ordinary’s Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Oil, The Ordinary’s Rose Hip Seed Oil, and Acure’s Rose Argan Oil. These oils are all organic and made with natural ingredients, and I adore them. They leave my skin feeling silky smooth without being oily. I just need two drops, one on each cheek, to cover my entire face; however, I like to concentrate the product on the outer regions of my face rather than my T zone, because that is where I am the driest and where I normally struggle with acne.
To help with hyperpigmentation and to even out my skin tone, I use Vitamin C oil. It also aids in the reduction of dark spots and the aging process.
I use the Rose Argan oil primarily for roses. Because the rose essential oil is so strong, it must be blended with other carrier oils like Argan oil. It has a calming and soothing effect on the skin, as well as assisting in the relaxation of the body and the reduction of anxiety. I enjoy using rose-scented cosmetics because they make me feel so good. Vitamin E is abundant in argan oil, making it ideal for regenerating skin and maintaining protein health. This can also be used on the hair, but I just use it on my skin. ‘Rosa Damascena’ will be branded on products that contain oil extracted from a real rose blossom.
I use rosehip oil since it’s high in Vitamin E and helps to keep your skin healthy, restore cells, and improve tone and texture. Rosehip is anti-inflammatory, anti-acne, and anti-aging, which are all qualities I admire. This oil is not related to the rose flower in any way. Rosehip oil, which comes from a fruit, is a separate plant and will be labeled as ‘Rosehip fruit oil,’ ‘Rosa canina,’ ‘Rosa moschata,’ or ‘Rosa rubiginosa’ in the ingredients.
I enjoy using all three oils, but I alternate between them and only use one during my skincare routine.
After a minute of allowing the oil to go into my skin, I apply moisturizer.
Eye Cream and Moisturizer
I use the Monat Balanced Moisturizer as a moisturizer since it is mild, uncomplicated, and lightweight. It’s suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin. It slides over my skin smoothly and feels light on my skin. I also use this lotion on the outer sections of my face, which are drier than the rest of my face. After I finish my bottle, I’ll probably look for a moisturizer from a brand that employs natural components and a more straightforward recipe, but this moisturizer is still fantastic and does a fantastic job.
To minimize inflammation and liquid in the sinuses, which can cause dark circles and puffiness, I massage around my nose, across my cheeks, and around my jaw. You can also use a Gua Sha or Jade roller for this and I usually conduct this massaging motion after I’ve applied moisturizer or oil.
After moisturizing and depuffing/draining my face, I apply eye cream to complete my skincare routine. Right now I am using the Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream is one of my favorites. I’m completely enamored with it. It’s a heavier cream that hydrates and softens the skin around my eyes. To avoid creases and wrinkles and to diminish dark circles, I like to use eye cream. This cream is especially effective at depuffing and brightening the under-eye area. It’s also hypoallergenic, suitable for all skin types.
*It’s also crucial to moisturize your entire body after showering. Bathing can cause your skin to become extremely dry, especially if you use hot water. I usually apply additional moisturizer to my knees, elbows, and ankles, as well as any other joints where you bend and stretch. I also make a point of moisturizing my back, from my shoulders to my hips. It’s critical to moisturize your body in order for your skin to remain flexible and move with you.
My nighttime skincare routine is now complete. I don’t use every product in my skincare routine every time I perform skincare, and I certainly don’t do everything every day. I only use cosmetics when I believe my skin requires some assistance. Our bodies are amazing and can handle a lot on their own, so I don’t want to disrupt my skin’s natural rhythm by using a ton of creams on it every day. Sometimes we just have to let our bodies do what they’re supposed to do. On days when I don’t use any skincare products, I simply wash my face with water and pat dry with a towel. That is all there is to it.
I think I’ve struck a decent balance between using skincare on and off, but there are still other things I do to maintain my skin healthy and glowing from the inside out!
Apart from sunscreen, which you should use if you use any product at all, this following piece is, in my opinion, more vital than having a skincare routine.
Drink plenty of water.
It is critical to stay hydrated in order to maintain healthy skin. It keeps everything running smoothly so your skin can regenerate, absorb vitamins, and operate normally. It will aid in the recovery of your skin, as well as the reduction of tension and dark circles. Water detoxes your body and removes dirt, and if you’re hydrated, you’ll sweat out all the nastiness in your pores more effectively when working out. The list might go on forever. Drink water; it’s the best and it’s life.
Tip: Use a water jug that has time markers on them like the one below
Eat a well-balanced diet.
For me, this means cutting down on oil (especially harmful fats like saturated fats, which are found in animal fats and oils that don’t heat well at high temperatures) and sugar. Limiting dairy is also a good idea because it’s inflammatory and doesn’t assist with acne (I substitute regular milk with almond milk). My skin is cleaner from acne, my puffiness is reduced, and my dark circles are reduced when I eat healthier and make it a point to minimize bad foods. From my own experience, it is the source of having good skin.
Exercise on a regular basis
Working out and working up a decent sweat and heart rate is fantastic for increasing blood circulation in my face and scalp, which aids in the healthy growth of my skin and hair. Sweating also clears your pores of debris and impurities, giving you that gym-goer glow. This is also why I enjoy doing cardio exercises like running and dancing.
Reducing time spent in front of the screen
It aids in the reduction of dark circles beneath my eyes. So, if I don’t need to look at a screen in my spare time, I’ll try to fill it with something else. Of course, there are occasions when I can’t help myself since I need a screen to accomplish things I enjoy, such as writing this post. But, in general, I’m working on developing the discipline and habit of limiting my screen time so that I don’t strain my eyes and contribute to my dark circles.
Sheets that are free of dust.
Washing your bed linens and pillow coverings will assist keep your skin clean. I need to make this a better practice of mine. A silk pillowcase is also beneficial since silk does not accumulate bacteria like other materials and does not hold as much moisture, allowing your skin to stay hydrated. It’s also wonderful for keeping your hair silky and healthy. My silk pillowcase is one of my favorites.
Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial for your overall health, including your skin. During sleep, your skin repairs and heals. It will help with dark circles, aging, and other issues. There’s a reason it’s called beauty sleep. That isn’t a myth; it is the fact.
That concludes my list of skin-care recommendations. I hope you enjoyed and learned something from my article. My skin is definitely smoother and healthier after keeping to a regular skincare routine and being consistent with other healthy habits. It’s also easier to pinpoint where I went wrong and make necessary adjustments, such as learning which meals to avoid.
I hope you develop some excellent habits and take care of yourself!
